PATTERN UPDATE / Amelia Hat

Amelia Hat knitting pattern by Jane Richmond

Amelia was one of my first patterns and is still one of my faves because I've found this hat so useful. Elsie actually likes wearing it which makes the design a huge success for that reason alone. The original design was knit in one size only (6-12m) using some wonderful mystery yarn that my mother passed along to me.

When I decided to rewrite the pattern I went on a mad hunt trying to ID this yarn with absolutely no luck. In the end I chose the most similar yarn that I could find, Phildar Aviso, and I have really enjoyed knitting with it. It's thick and knits up quickly and the texture is so amazing, it's soft and almost velvety but has beautiful, crisp stitch definition.

The new pattern is written for three sizes, Newborn (Baby, Toddler) and is worked from the top down this time, rather than using a bottom up construction and picking up stitches for the chinstrap. It only uses one ball of the recommended yarn and is really fun and easy to knit, not to mention super fast!
