NEW PATTERN / Lawrence Scarf

Knitting has brought so much comfort during these strange and difficult times. It’s created a sense of community during a time when it's not possible to socially gather. It has brought connection and conversation to my inbox during a time of isolation and disconnectedness. And most of all the act of making has been the most valuable escape when the real world feels overwhelming. I am so grateful, right now more than ever, to have knitting as a constant in my life.

{ Lawrence Scarf — Bulky Version }

I have a special new pattern to share with you — one that brought me comfort during the adjustment period of initial lock down for Covid-19. The yarn arrived to me at the onset of the pandemic, right before everything got turned on it’s head. Being able to knit row after row of comforting Garter stitch into soft textured ridges with this modern boucle was like cuddling a teddy bear (truly!). The Lawrence Scarf could be knit with any DK or bulky weight yarn (the pattern is written for both) however it really shines when a textured yarn like this Woolfolk Flette is used. This yarn, if you decide to splurge, will bring you so much joy to work with, I strongly encourage you to treat yourself! I especially enjoyed working with the bulky weight as it increases the cozy factor and also flies off the needles!

The design itself was inspired during a past trip to Chicago with an unexpected layover in Toronto (the pattern is named for the St Lawrence Market). Looking back now it’s hard to imagine travelling by plane and across boarders when we are asked to stay inside our immediate community. These are very strange times and I think comfort and self care are paramount these days — what brings you joy should be embraced, remember to cut yourself some slack and lean into the support of others when given the chance.

I am offering this as a free pattern so that the joy of knitting might spread a little further. I hope this pattern brings a little comfort, warmth, distraction, and an excuse to splurge on luxury yarn! Also included in the pattern is a special discount code to show my appreciation for your support of my work as a small business during these uncertain times, it means so very much to me.
